    Vista & EPG

    Hi,

I have no idea how many times I've tried to get my Vista Home Premium x64's MCE to download the EPG. I always end up with the "Guide listings not available" message. I've tried the guides from the Aus MCE community as well as guides listed here. I've also installed the MCEGuide's program, but with no luck.

What is the current status on the whole Monochoice issue, and is there perhaps a definitive guide that I haven't found yet? Do I need to reinstall Vista because of all the other changes I have made?

Thanks in advance for your help.

     George

    Hi George

Which version of the MCEGuide client did you install?

    Hi George

There is a 64bit install for ZaEpg that you can use to get the EPG (EPG data supplied by MCEGuide).

    • Download the 1.1.0.2 zip
    • Uninstall any of the other epg apps you have downloaded (may require a reboot)
    • install the ZaEpg app, requires a reboot.
    • Set up the guide in media center (you can follow the MCEGuide pdf for this part)

    Cheers

    Colin

    Re: Vista & EPG

Hi, I have recently installed 64 bit Vista MCE. The MCE seems to be working okay except I can't seem to get the Guides working.

I installed ZAEPG and never really had any joy, I went on to uninstall that and install MCE Guide software. Still no luck.

I adjusted the registry entry "discSVC", Still no luck. Reinstalled ZAEPG and seem to be getting a bit further... BTW the registry is now refering to:
    http://savage.org.za/epg/GetTVServicesMetaInfo.xml

Yes I am signed up with MCEGuide. And it is activated

     I now get this error:

    "Download incomplete
Guide listings could not be retrieved. Guide setup error
Details: The guide listings you have selected are no longer available.
Would you like Windows Media Center to try again?"

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance

    Re: Vista & EPG

You need to have installed the 64 bit version of zaepg for it to work, as far as I know the the MCEGuide installed doesn't cater for 64 bit as the registry key would be written into the 32 bit registry emulator.

As explained in other posts, zaepg's only role is to maintain that one registry key, and it does that by running a windows service application (Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services) that monitors it. Zaepg no longer provides guide data, it just points to the mceguide info, which is why you need to register with MCEGuide.

It seems like you have it installed correctly now if you can see that registry value. After that you would need to restart the windows media center application and run the guide setup from the settings. After the wizard has completed, media center uses that url from the registry and a value that identifies which guide you selected (called a headendid) to download the guide on a daily schedule. From what I can see, the urls that are there are working, is it possible that you selected a guide in the past and that guide's headendid is no longer available?

    Hi Colin,

Thanks for the advice. I understand far better the functions of the two apps.

I have checked in the registry and the url remains http://savage.org.za/epg/GetTVServicesMetaInfo.xml

So it seems to be correct. I have checked my internet connection and that seems to be stable. I have confirmed with MCE Guide on my unique machine identifier and that seems to be the very same I gave to them upon regustration and yet it still gives me the error.

The windows message:"An error has occured and Windows Media center is unable to download or display..."

It does however seem to start downloading very briefly...very strange.

    Any other ideas?
