    Vista recognises incorrect TV signal

    howdy peeps...

    anyone got any idea why Vista recognises the incorrect TV signal and how to fix it?

    I'm using a videomate T750 card on vista ultimate and it assumes my DSTV is antenna when it should be satellite. anyone know how to manually configure it or change it to satellite? your help would be much appreciated.

    thanks a lot and enjoy.....

    Hi Grant

    I searched the registry for any settings that can be manually changed and this is what I found: (don't know if it will help)

    If you open regedit and navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Media Center > Settings > TVConfig

    I believe the following subkeys might be relevant: (My signal type is Satellite)

    fHasSTB = 1

    iBroadcastStandard = 2

    iVideoSource = 3

    Then if you navigate to same as above but only to Service > Video > Tuners > {some random number} > {another random number} > UserSettings

    I have the following: (Seems like this relates to the Satellite setup as explained in the manual that you've downloaded)

    EnabledForMCE = ffffffff (Hex)

    RecordOrder = 0

    RecordPrefered = ffffffff (Hex)

    STBCode = <stb> <codeseturl>\microsoft\S0879</codeseturl> <keyinterval>100</keyinterval> <keyduration>xxx</keyduration> <channelpause>yyy</channelpause> <useenter>False</useenter> <numdigits>3</numdigits> <target>\\?\root#system#0001#{7951772d-cd50-49b7-b103-2baac494fc57}\port1\*</target> </stb>

    UserDefName = Satellite receiver

    UseSTB = ffffffff (Hex)

    WatchOrder = 0

    WatchPrefered = ffffffff (Hex)

    Then if you navigate a little bit further down that hive to TuneRequest > Tuning Spaces

    I have:

    CountryCode = 27 (For SA)

    Description = Analog Auxiliary Input #1

    Name = AuxIn1

    Network Type = {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}

    I don't know if yours should be the same. It's something you can play around with but I recommend making a backup of your registry first.

    Regards

    Howdy Frost...

    well, bad news is that it holds no weight on the TV signal...

    I would like to ask something else though... what card are you using and what connections do you have going into it?' i have a feeling that MCE picks up the antenna only because of the card capabilties...

    thanks a lot........

    I'm using an Asus My Cinema P7131 with RCA connectors from my decoder to the card's composite in.

    Hi Grant

    I did a bit of research and found out that the analog component of the Compro does not work with satellite decoders as it does not have an audio input for set top boxes. I think you might have a problem getting it to work properly.

    I think you might want to return the card and get something better like a Hauppauge card.

    Re: Vista recognises incorrect TV signal

    Hi,

    thank you for your post... i had the exact same epiphany last night and looked into and found the same.. although it is vista compatable, it cannot handle the satellite input...

    Question: the hauppahe MCE150 PVR card has what looks like a DSTV input on the card itself... would you put the satellite cable staright in there and then back into the decoder with RCA cables? would that be sufficient...

    regards peeps...

    Hi Grant,

    No, that input is for the terrestial (analog) TV antenna input. I don't know which DSTV decoder you have, but the best is to use the S-video out from your decoder into the card.

    Re: Vista recognises incorrect TV signal

    Hi Grant

    Those connectors on the Hauppauge are for an antenna connection and not a dish connection.

    You would connect the dish to the decoder as normal and then use the AV outputs of the decoder to connect to the Hauppauge card.

    From that point you would need to setup the ir blasters on the front of the decoder to get channel changing to work.

    Hope this all helps.
