Any success with Remote Learning on Multichoice PVR decoder ?

I try to configure my MCE for learning the remote control of the Multichoice PVR decoder.

In TV Configuration, I select Satellite, I then get my signal, and then I go to the learning procedure of the remote supplied by Multichoice.

I follow the procedures by pressing 1-9 buttons ...

When I go to MyTV, the change of channel works erratic.

I experienced no problem with my older Multichoice decoder, but this new PVR seems to be hard to tame.

Anyone who had success with the PVR decoder ?

    Hi Fred

I dont think you are going to get anywhere with the PVR decoder most people have gotten Dualviews if they are using them with MCE.

The primary problem is that the older decoders use RC5 and RC6 IR protocols which MCE supports whereas the newer PVR uses the XMP protocol which MCE does not seem to understand.

Sorry for the bad news but maybe you can swap your PVR for a DualView if you can.

    thanks for that information.

I however played (sweated) the whole weekend trying to configure the IR, and finally succeeded. When in learning mode, MCE asks to push the button and then release it after a while. Just dont follow that procedure, and only press the buttons for 1 second. You might have to retry a few times, but eventually it works...

So now, my PVR works with MCE Stick out tongue

I also got the PVR decoder to work with the MCE blaster this way.  I used this with a USB UIRT also to learn the codes, but it seems like the MCE blaster is even more reliable in picking up the codes this way.

You can read about my experience here.

Don't know if you already found a remote but perhaps I can help you.

I ordered an OEM set via a computer connection and ended up with 3!

So I have brand new 2 X MS MCE Remote Controls complete with IR reciever & transmitters.

I want R300 per set. If you're interested let me know - I'm in Stellenbosch.

    @fredgr

I have been struggling with this PVR for a while.  Just when I think I have the codes all correct, suddenly it does something really weird for example when I have 2 and 3 seemingly 100%, channel 23 doesn't work.  It puts too many 2s or too many 3s or whatever.  Also, 0 always fills the DSTV decoder with 9s for some reason.  Freakin' irritating this!!!  Don't ask why I got a PVR.  Long story, and not my choice!!!

There is an IR Devices Update on Windows Update (dated 28/04/07) that seems to help Vista control the new PVR decoder.  It's still not perfect on my system, but I only played with it for a few minutes and I'm a LOT closer than I was before.  Holding thumbs that I'll be able to sort it out completely real soon!

Talking about decoders, I have the dual view (non pvr) and for some reason it changes the chanel to 0 sometimes. This is highly irritating. It happens mostly when browsing through recorded tv and sometimes the guide.

Any ideas why this happens? and how do I fix it?

Re: Any success with Remote Learning on Multichoice PVR decoder ?

so has anyone got the PVR decoder to work with Vista MCE? Is forking out dosh for a blaster the only way out?

I've installed the april cumulative update which I would assume has the IR devices update in it to no avail.

Driving me up the wall I tell you, it's been a week now - everything is OK, apart from a video/audio jitter. Just close and re-open MCE a few times and its fine, so i'll leave that for now. just this frickin remote learning issue.

    B U M P!!

OK much closer. jittering is gone thanks to NVIDIA driver update updated may.

channel changing still erratic, 3 and 4 seems stable (well more than other channels anyway). will try the 1 second instead of waiting to release...

will update later - otherwise i'm gonna try blaster remote, failing that anyone want to upgrade your old decoder to my PVR? :)

Hi Duncan, any success yet controlling your PVR?  I have the same problem and have tried just about everything with no luck.  Keep getting the wrong channels and sometimes it doesn't even change the channel.

    Please let me know.....

     Cheers,

No luck.  I am busy playing with the Key Duration, Channel Pause and Key Interval settings as described in this artlice (http://mediacenter.mattgoyer.com/2004/12/14.html), but it takes LONG.  I have gotten it to work sometimes, but just when I'm getting excited, it fills the DSTV Decoder screen with 3332212 or whatever!!

If anyone finds a good value to use, please spost it up here.  I will do the same.

    Cheers

Guys, is this problem unique to the PVR. I have a dual view non PVR and my channel change works perfect, except for the issue I posted above which is not related to channel change.

    Cheers
